What do you do for a living?

I am a physician specializing in blood disorders and cancer.

What is your disability?

My disability is T12 paraplegia.

Where did you go to school?

I went to the University of Missouri at Kansas City where I majored in Biology and earned my M.D. My postgrad training was at Loma Linda University and UC Irvine

What keeps you going?

I like to think that I am just a small part of something much bigger in this world and that the difficulties I have in my life are just a part of living. I have a wonderful and full life with my wife, family, and friends.

What are your fears?

I’m afraid of things that are outside of my control.

What outside interests do you have?

I enjoy singing and playing the guitar. I love driving in the mountains and around the race track. I also like to handcycle, travel, and seek out good food.

Do you have any big dreams?

One day I would like to have a school, like on X-men, where we could hold classes for kids who have disabilities so that they know that their disabilities can be an asset rather than a limitation.

What message would you give another disabled person?

Block out the noise and do your thing.
